Transient inaccuracy in reaching caused by a posterior parietal lobe lesion.
نویسنده
چکیده
A transient disturbance of manual reaching in both hemispaces associated with a small contralateral posterior perietal lobe (area 7) lesion is described. This defect was increased when the patient tried to reach without viewing of the affected arm. Inaccurate reaching is a distinct syndrome from visuomotor or optic ataxia, and is interpreted as a failure in guiding the arm towards specific sites of the space.

Gerstmann’s syndrome in non- dominant hemisphere: a case report
Gerstmann’s syndrome is caused by a left (dominant) inferior parietal lesion, particularly involving the angular gyrus or subjacent white matter of the left hemisphere. We describe case of an 80 year old right handed man admitted to our hospital with history of sudden onset of blurred vision. At first in neurological examination, he had left hemonymus hemianopia and characteristic features of G...

Optic ataxia (OA) is classically defined as a deficit of visually guided movements that follows lesions of the posterior part of the posterior parietal cortex (PPC). Since the formalisation of the double stream of visual information processing [Milner, A. D., & Goodale, M. A. (1995). The visual brain in action. Oxford: Oxford University Press] and the use of OA as an argument in favour of the i...
متن کاملIntentional signals during saccadic and reaching delays in the human posterior parietal cortex.
In the monkey posterior parietal cortex (PPC), there is clear evidence of anatomically segregated neuronal populations specialized for planning saccades and arm-reaching movements. However, functional neuroimaging studies in humans have yielded controversial results. Here we show that the human PPC contains distinct subregions responsive to salient visual cues, some of which combine spatial and...

Definition Specific impairment of the visual control of limb movements observed in patients with lesion of the posterior parietal cortex. This deficit is expressed as errors both in final limb position in reaching/pointing tasks and in the shaping of hand aperture in grasping tasks. These deficits are exacerbated when the movements are programmed and executed under peripheral vision by asking t...
متن کاملContribution of the posterior parietal cortex in reaching, grasping, and using objects and tools
Neuropsychological and neuroimaging data suggest a differential contribution of posterior parietal regions during the different components of a transitive gesture. Reaching requires the integration of object location and body position coordinates and reaching tasks elicit bilateral activation in different foci along the intraparietal sulcus. Grasping requires a visuomotor match between the obje...
